Citizens State Bank of Green Isle
Green Isle, Minnesota | Built 1904
The historic Citizens State Bank has stood on McGrann Street in Green Isle since 1904. Today, the building is at risk of demolition. Historical Brick & Beam Preservation is working to protect it, secure the approvals needed to move forward, and create a path toward restoration and reuse. Â
1. WHY THIS BUILDING MATTERS
The Citizens State Bank of Green Isle has been part of Green Isle since 1904. In a community of roughly 700 residents, historic buildings like this help tell the story of where the town came from and the obstacles, like the Great Depression have survived and give Green Isle a sense of place that cannot be recreated once it is gone. Â

But preserving the bank is about more than saving an old building. The community currently has limited commercial space available for new businesses. Restoring this property could return valuable space to use, support local entrepreneurs, encourage new economic activity, and give another business the opportunity to become part of the community. Â

Our goal is to preserve the history that is already here while creating something useful for Green Isle's future. Â

2. WHERE THINGS STAND TODAY
Historic Brick & Beam Preservation is actively working to create a path forward for the Citizens State Bank. At this time, the required permits and approvals needed to begin restoration work have not yet been issued. Â

Until those approvals are in place, we are limited in the physical work that can be completed on the building. Our current focus is navigating the approval process, addressing outstanding requirements, developing the restoration plan, pursuing funding opportunities, and advocating for the preservation rather than demolition. Â

3. OUR VISION FOR THE BANK
Our vision is to restore the Citizens State Bank into a space that once again serves the Green Isle community while preserving the historic character of the building.

The restored bank is intended to provide flexible commercial space for small businesses, create opportunities for community use, and become the future home of the Historic Brick & Beam Preservation.

By bringing this building back into productive use, we hope to create a place that supports local business, celebrates Green Isle's history, and demonstrates how historic buildings can be preserved while still serving a modern purpose.Â
